giantpanda4
With a lot of time, and not as much $$$, maybe you oughtta hit the auction sites as well as the gun shows for used early 1928 Thompson wood (no crossbolt). Yes, early wood for Thompsons is quite nice - read about their history (you know the books...) you will find they actually were made from German Black Forest Walnut. I just heard this again last weekend, and I have seen some of it. It is usually ugly when you find it, but get your hands dirty refinishing it and you will have nice wood for a budget price! It's a great project for a novice, and will help get you even more interested in the Thompson. ps - nothing against Dan's stocks - I have two sets and they are fantastic!
