brian
the shorter barrel will get you by......for now. soon enough though you'll *need* an SBR. that would be where i'm at now, just need to fill out the forms. http://www.boomspeed.com/kinky/45C.JPG
Zamm
Ronman, Both Damon at Tommygunner and PK do this wonderful deed. I highly recomend it! Zamm http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v727/zamm/ZammBarelA.jpg
Grey Crow
http://home.ptd.net/~wolfen/photos/1927SBRsm.jpg They would look even shorter if a ring site were used. The stock came out shiny as the wood is WWII and very hard. The finish is only stain and linseed oil. The photo is with a 10.5" bbl.
ronmann
thanks guys.those guns look great!I cant believe the difference 2'' makes.im going to have to settle for the 16'' setup.I dont think i can get the sbr in NY.hell, you have to wait 2 years for a pistol permit.thanks again for the pics, and if you guys got more post them, please. Grey Crow
ronmann, Its a shame that NY has such asinine laws. From the posts I've been receiving from the NRA/ILA its about to get worse.
ronmann
greycrow, what is a ring site?but some of the laws work good, for instance since they passed the one banning mags over 10 rds.i cant remember the last time i heard of anyone getting shot in a drive by more then ten times. So i guess that one was effective.also since the banned saterday night specials the local criminal element carries much nicer weapons.if I have to get mugged and shot by some"gangsta"i guess id rather get popped with a classy gun rather then some piece of shit.,so i guess you have to take the good with the bad. Grey Crow
The ring site is like the style used on the 21 and M1 Thompson's, no Cutt's compensator. The last post from the NRA/ILA indicated that they plan on adding more guns to the assult rifle list. Lets hope it dosen't include the 27A1, like so many of the other lists have done. Also that they will allow pre owned semis to be grandfathered. It seems that there are a few states that do want to add the 27 to their list and make yearly registration and a fee, part of the law. PA attempted to write such a law but for now it was defeated.

Zamm
Ronman, Yep, all is grandfathered at the moment, the key being "at the moment". Welcome to the club that a few of us like Damon and Walter living in "New York no-gunland" belong to. Keep in touch with what these nut's here in NY are up to, they don't give us a minutes rest attempting to outlaw anything that could be used as an assault weapon, including pencils that may be shorter then 3 inches and highly sharpened! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/dry.gif I'm sure the Thompson semi's will be added to any new list. they seem to be on every other one. Just the pistol grip and detachable mag are a death warrent. Write your local reps and keep writing. Z P.S. Grew Crow, I don't think that you can shorten a barrel with a ring sight, being that it is allready 16 inches. The thing that works with welding the Cutts Comp. to a 2 inch shortened barrel is that you are going from 18" ( original 16" barrel with the 2" comp. screwed or glued on) to 16" overall by cuttting 2" off the barrel and permanently making the Comp. part of it. Beautiful funiture on your gun!

Grey Crow
Zamm, Your right about the movement of the comp., the 21/M1 style ring site would do nothing to shorten the appearance of a 16" bbl. Does NY have any provision that would allow one to make a SBR if OK'd by the ATF? Seeing that at the time of this writing the Thompson isn't on the assault rifle list. I guess the trick would be getting a LEO to sign off on the project first. It to bad they can't make a national gun law where its all legal. Thanks for the comments on my hardware. I need to take some new photos with the non-crossbolt stock on it. Right now its just in a display case with a bunch of other Thompson parts. Zamm
Grew Crow, NO SBR availabilty in NY State. Nada, nothing. No provisions for anything NFA at all, (Only Class II manufacturers, guess the state can make a buck or two on those folks!) We are surrounded by 3 states that have full class III ( if i remember correctly), and here we sit, with some of the craziest gun laws on the books! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! My thoughts completely with a Fed. Law. One bloody law to cover everything. Problem is it may damm well be the wrong law http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif Best, Zamm
ronmann
the problem is there are too many wannabe dictators.they want to tell us what to do,what to think etc, etc.they probably go for guns because there an easy target, but there getting around to other things, smoking seatbelts(if I DECIDE I dont want to wear a seat belt its a $100 fine!? for my own good).they will get around to other things.the problem is we get these politicions that are grandfathered in for ever like Kennedy or in NY Boelert.they sit on thrones for so long they believe they are the law. Zamm
Ronman, Walter's "Politicians/Diapers" signature about sums it all up! Brian, QUOTE wow you guys can't even have SWP's(short wood pencils)? i suppose permanent markers are a no-no as well? SWP's...I like that! Yes, permanent markers are legal, as long as they have a soft felt tip. Would not want to infringe on the rights of our subway graffiti artists http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif Z
pvmain
Back in the 70's I unscrewed the compensator on my '27, took it to a machinist I knew, had him pick up the original threads with his lathe and thread the whiole internal length of the compensator. Screw the compensator on until the muzzle is flush with it . Use Loctite to secure it. Comp will be ineffective, but on S.A., who cares! It looks just as nice as if you you actually shortened the barrel/
anticus
Another legit option is the Quick Change feature with a 10.5 " dummy barrel for display and 16" for shooting.
