The local gunsmith says he cannot do it because he needs a special hydraulic press. I have read about Dan Block. peter kohler Posted March 27, 2020 Report Share Posted March 27, 2020 dan did three of them for me. he can do the quick change barrel if you want one. you should also talk to him about the selector mod , that holds the bolt back for installation and removal of the drum. and maybe do your mag catch so you can use unmodified USGI mags. hes got lots of great ideas. JohnRodabaugh Posted March 27, 2020 Report Share Posted March 27, 2020 Philadelphia Ordnance says they can do the barrel swap with about a two week turnaround.Deerslayer told me he was booked up for about 6 months right now, I didnt want to wait for the barrel change as I just got my Form 1 approved.Will post a review when I get my gun back. deerslayer Posted March 29, 2020 Report Share Posted March 29, 2020 GI, West Hurley and early kahr had muzzle threads for the compensator. Later and current kahr have smooth press on compensator. All have the same thread size and pattern for the receiver, but quality varies a little, some barrels and receiver combination require a little tweeking. deerslayer Posted March 30, 2020 Report Share Posted March 30, 2020 Thompsonbarrels.com are the best. Green mountain are the cheapest. Of course GI can be a choice. The original 16 inch barrel can be used and the sight sleeved to fit but has the wrong profile. md66948 Posted April 14, 2020 Report Share Posted April 14, 2020 Great Post! I just purchased a WH 1927A1 last week from a dealer in MD. The dealer believes this 1927 is unfired. Looking at the detail pictures of this rifle it appears to be mint. The rifle will be delivered to my FFL tomorrow. If I like this WH Thompson Rifle I will keep it and SBR it. I am very familiar with the SBR process having done several for family members. What I am not familiar with is the WH 1927A1 Thompson. The serial number on this WH dates it to 1992. A few questions that I have is what rear site will I find on this 1992 WH 1927A1 and is the compensator threaded or pressed on the barrel? I really would like to make this Thompson look similar to the 1921/28 Navy Marked Thompson that my father was issued when he was deployed to Africa as part of the Lend Lease Agreement more the 6 months prior to WWII starting. Work was done fast and it is great, price was very reasonable for this kind of specialty work, would use them again. When you order the barrel from Thompsonbarrels.com, if you order a front sight don't get it predrilled, as it makes it harder to install, I had a predrilled sight, and they recommended a new sight as it would work better, only cost $25 but the one I got from thompsonbarrels,.com is now just a spare part. Gun was done in under the time qouted and shipped back very quickly. I am very happy with the job done. I will be modifying the mag catch myself, and also doing the "toolless" takedown modification. deerslayer Posted April 15, 2020 Report Share Posted April 15, 2020 The west Hurley guns usually have cheap lookalike rear sight installed with pop rivets and a threaded comp. Sight will be held on by locktite... And the barrel with also be held on by locktite... If you shoot it a bit they will both probably shoot loose. Which will make changing the barrel easier lol.. TONY GANZ Posted April 18, 2020 Author Report Share Posted April 18, 2020 I got my SBR back from Dan Block and I love it. It is amazing how different the gun handles with the short barrel. Completely different feel and handling. Dan also put in some easy pull springs and they make a big difference. Had some failure to chamber the first day at the range, but second day ran like a top. Put almost 300 rounds through it from seven different magazines and it ran great. Dan did all the work the same day he received it. Great job Dan.
