You may want to buy the firing pin gauge. They are cheap - just keep an eye open.

You will find the Max. and Min. listed on the WW2 gage photographed in this thread. Surplus gages as pointed out above are availalbe from several sources.
H .050 and L .044

Just measured a brand new in the wrap M1A1 "S" Savage bolt: .040" Protrusion, carefully measured with a depth mic.
If it wasn't for Bridgeport's posts, constantly forcing me to dig through my parts, I'd forget even more about what I have.
I did find a note saying I bought the bolt from Phil Askew, a few TATA's ago. (Now, who was driving on that trip...?)
