sentinel
Hi; This is my first time posting here. I bought a rather beat up M1A1 five years ago with plans to "restore" it http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif Just purchased a nice condition butt stock marked with small ordnance cartouche (circle with crossed cannons). Have a second stock with large ordnance cartouche. If they relate to Garand markings the smaller cartouche indicates later war manufacture. Can anyone confirm this? Additionally, and this worries me a bit http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif the stock with small cartouche has a narrower neck than the other one. Is this normal or should I suspect it's been sanded a bit/lot????? Thanks for any responses. From the newcommer. Terry
gijive
The contour and necks of M1/M1A1 stocks vary slightly. I attribute this to different contracts with different manufacturers. The earlier butt stocks without the reinforcing cross bolt seem to have a thicker neck. Some reinforced types have a thinner neck.
