bigu2fan
Good morning gents! I am writing to see whether there are any issues/concerns with firing live .45 ACP ammo through a TSMG with a blank adapted barrel? Supposedly the blank adapter process required the interior 1/2 inch or so to be threaded. Are there any issues with firing standard ammo though one of these blank adapted barrels in terms of accuracy or concerns that the threaded area somehow could get filled with lead and have to be cleaned like a compensator? bug
I'd bet that accuracy would suffer but only testing would tell for sure. The threads would surely fill with that lovely mixture that collects in the Cutts comp. A chaser tap for cleaning would be a good idea if you pursue this. And of course, make sure the orfice has been removed.
WW2Collector39-45
Dan Block drilled and tapped a barrel for me a few years ago, which I have fired hundreds of live rounds through since. Ive never had an issue with buildup in the set screw threads, but I always clean the barrel with a wire brush before reinserting the blank adaptor set screw when needed for blank rounds. As far as accuracy goes I never used the barrel before the threads were added but for what its worth I can bullseye pop cans at 50 yards quite easily with it. MG08
I know of guys here who have had the blank barrels and used them for live ammo No one reported issues. It is not a sniper rifle - it should shoot minute of milk jug at 25 yds just fine.
Hopalong
What's the purpose of a blank adapter? I'm guessing it's a safety measure to avoid shooting live ammo. But is there any other reason for having it?
jim c 351
The purpose of a blank adapter is to provide constriction in the bore to enable the gun to fire automatically with blanks,Jim C

Roland the Thompsongunner
Dont have a blanked thompson but have a ppsh with a blanked 9mm barrel with thousands of rounds through it no problems at all going back and forth between live and blank
Blanksguy
bigu2fan,It really isn't an issue on a gun that is going to be live-fired, and gives the owner the option to occasionally fire "Blanks" if they wanted to...……..kind of like a Thompson with nicks/gouges/markings (some call giving a military weapon "character".....while others call a slight down-grading.)…….just depends on which side of the "sale" you are on.
