jl7422
Anybody know of a source (or suitable substitute) for the 1919/R75/R80 Colt BAR recoil spring? I thought it might be the same as the 1918/A2 but it is clearly not. I have one but it seems pretty weak. Thanks.
jim c 351
I don't know the answer but if you locate some please advise me.Perhaps Wolff Springs has something close. Here is the data on my 1919 spring.12.75 inches long.435 inch diameter of coils..049 thickness of wire. How does this compare to your spring??Jim C

jl7422
Ok Jim, here's what I've got: Existing (weak) spring: 11.5 in. long, .422 dia. coils and thickness of wire .045. Total of 60 coils Then I found another one from a Colt buffer in the bottom of the parts box that I didn't remember I had:13" long, .428 dia. and .045 wire thickness (66 coils) This spring is much stronger than the weak one and I'm going to try using it until a suitable replacement is found. Only other thing I had close was the outer recoil spring for an FAL : .410 dia. and .042 wire with plenty of length. Now that I know what we're basically looking for, I'll hunt the greasy parts bins at the SARS show and see what I can find.

Mongo
Might want to check if you can get one a Swedish kg m/21 one from Numerich. I think if you get hold of the guy in charge of the MG stuff they have parts not listed on the web.
jl7422
Sorry Jim, I got started on other projects and never circled back to it. In reviewing my notes, it appears an FAL spring would be the most available and easiest starting point. As I recall, they are long as-is compared to the 1919 BAR spring.
