Recommended Posts

Can anyone give me the approx market value of the attached WW2 Drum pouch that I have been offered?

There is no shoulder strap with it.

$100 today with strap. safe to say I have probably sold over 100 plus of those over the years. One of the harder ones to find was the Commercial belt model that the Marines used. and not marked U.S.M.C. either. When they carried while guarding mail and the jungle battles prior to WW2.

At one time canvass was hard to really find. Now it seems it is all over the place. And mainly because of repos also being sold.

Every Thompson collector should have at least one item of all that was out there. Over ten years ago I sold the belt pouch sets with five twenty round mag all new unissued. fifty sets went fairly fast. Now today I don't see many of them for sale anymore. And the ten Mills shot shell pouches not at all.

Some stuff hit rare others not so much, Good luck in the sale.

Looks like the seller, I am a buyer, is asking too much for that one, so I'll pass on it,

Thanks to you both for that information, it is appreciated.

Stay safe

Unmarked commercial green type canvass bought a case of them unissued through interarms well over 18 years ago sold most to Jerry in Wisconsin, Tracie had a few pics I think in the Thompson book and a few Marines who had worn them..A few Clowns at the time said new made others said not sure who produced.I already had decades in doing this stuff and I said just because you never had one or seen one did not mean nobody had one or they did not exist. Just like the instruction Envelope and sheet that went out with every Colt. Got it from a police chief in Okie who's dept got it when they bought their COLT#7519 from Auto Ord. BOUGHT the whole rig from them and he mails me a manual and that paperwork. A great cased 1921ac complete and all original

I could fill volumes with the deals....and since nobody ever has I guess afraid who might find out what. Like the Auto Ord Files and that employee at Knob Creek who showed up with boxes of files. My deal stolen under my nose. And it ended up going to one collector and a different story told.

It is all fun and history and some Pirates also in the mix. Because they want to write a book. Told Gordon about that all years ago.

Anyhow some guys probably have those pouches today and don't even know what they bought.no loops or strap, went on the mills belt drum only.

The back should have the part that slides onto the Mills belt

Ron & Ron,

Thanks to both of you.

So if I understand correctly, both pouches, with out shoulder strap, were both commercial not marked US, pre WW2.

The pouches marked MILLS came first and when they ran out the unmarked pouches were made.

Therefore both pouches are pre Savage and therefore Colt pouches. The pouches marked MILLS are more expensive simply because of the name.

The unmarked pouch I have seems similar in color to the WW2 BOYLE pouch. Any idea whether or not BOYLE made the unmarked pouch??

Thanks again,

Jim C

No maker name I ever found on the pouches, late 20's early 30's manufacture is what I was able to find like I said Interarms had a case of them and I bought the whole case. When I had them for sale nobody had one or seen one at that time, But when I had the ten two cell shot mag pouch from Mills very few had them also. I actually got Curtiss to buy a set from me for 500 bucks with the two mags. Back in 2000 he still had them in his office cabinet. I sold him the set around 1976. Very few of us still around that talk about those days.

Seems like today no hidden cache of anything comes out. The last deal was England and Russia and that was well over ten years ago. And not sure anything came out of Greece yet. Or the Libyan pile, Brit and German stuff.

still fun to search. Now it is when you can find a P.D. who has not been touched in 70 years. ha ha to that one.

Has anyone ever encountered an L Drum Pouch, Rusco Marked on the inside cover (undated), US Marked on the outside cover and NO provisions / attachments for a shoulder carry strap? It only has the belt loop attachment on the rear. The construction appears to be earlier commercial manufacturer, however the US Marking and no provision for a shoulder strap throws me. I have had one like this for approximately 35 years and never could determine were it fit into the scheme of things. Very early military procurement?

Two L Drum belt loop only pouches, no provision for a shoulder strap or evidence of ever having a provision. Neither pouch has a manufacturer or date listed inside the flap. The more straw color pouch on the right has a U.S. on the outside of the flap. Both pouches exhibit wear and tear and appear to have either served admirably or the kids in the 1950's played hard with them but managed not to write their name on either pouch.
