The original caption said NYPD. and Police from Shanghai, between 1945 & 1949. Finally, I have seen a photo in the past, showing the policeman in the photo below, armed with the TSMG with C drum, by himself dismounted from the fire truck, but can not find it now. I have a similar photo on file which features a Brirish Columbian Provincial Police officer, see below. Has anyone heard of a lawman called S. Glen Young from Illinois, see below? Many years ago I downloaded his book, 'Life and Exploits of S. Glenn Young', and never found time to read it, one of these days. S Glen Young Illinois C1924.JPG Many years ago I downloaded his book, 'Life and Exploits of S. Glenn Young', and never found time to read it, one of these days. Young was a fired special officer from Williamson County, IL. Special officers were pretty common at the time, as far as I can tell these were deputised folks without weapons. He personally bought the Model 1921A submachine gun (No. 2256) in early 1924 (shipped on 31-DEC-1923). Around 1923 he became a self-appointed "Prohibition Officer" (as far as I can remember he was not actually with the Bureau of Prohibition, at least no longer at that time) and with his buddies from the Ku Klux Klan conducted numerous pro-prohibition raids in the area. That brought him in conflict with pretty much everyone there, including both the Birger and Shelton Gangs and the local law enforcement. He arrested local police officers, some people were killed, in February 1924 military law was declared and up to 1,000 troops from the Illinois National Guard were brought in to oust the KKK and with him Young. Apparently he was still allowed to keep his weapons, though, because in May 1924 he had his Thompson and two Government pistols with him when his car was strafed by the Shelton Gang on the road. He was wounded, his wife blinded (she later published the book you mentioned). In January 1925, Young was killed in a spectactular gun fight with sheriff deputies and two KKK bodyguards in a hotel lobby in Herrin, IL.An interesting detail is that one of Young's opponents in all this was Sheriff George Galligan of Williamson County, whose deputy Leslie Farmer acquired the Model 1921A submachine guns (No. 2347 and No. 2596) for the conflict. What's that you say? No. 2347? The gun used in the murder of Francesco Ioele (AKA Frankie Yale) and the seven guys in the SMC garage in Chicago (AKA the St. Valentine's Massacre)? Surely not? Yeah, the very same. Which opens up interesting new avenues to from where Thomas Camp (AKA Fred "Killer" Burke) got the gun ...
