mbc230
I'm looking for class 3. Just Thompsons actually. I get that, but there were a bunch listed and I can get specific, but it will take too much to put it all together. Which ones were you looking at? Colt, West Hurley? Thank you. fifthmdec
Lot 466 was a pre may sales sample. Inter American import export company out of Sacramento CA. Imported lots of pre may sales samples in the early 1980s. I did not see that listed in the ad that it was a pre may sales sample.

Frank Iannamico
Why would it bring that much!!?? Anyone want to venture a guess??I would guess that the buyer didn't know the difference between an original Colt or WWII gun and a West Hurley.I have spoken with quite a few customers that bought Thompsons (mostly purchased in the 1980s) Their dealer asked "do you want old used one or a brand new Thompson? Customer: "They still make them?" Dealer: "yep same company Auto-Ordnance" (NOT). Customer "I want a new one" Back in those days little was known about Thompsons, and machine guns in general. There was no internet and few books, one of the few magazines was FirePower. Cox's Thompson book was one of the first in 1982 (?) I don't think he even mentioned the WH guns. colt21a
Frank is right on all that my first Thompson ad was in shotgun news and i sold to Curtiss Earl, Tommy St. Charles and a few others.most major players did not even jump into anything until the mid 80s; and a few east coast guys i met.and Marty Pearl he is still a round. my ad was 7 years before Cox book. and five years after Helmers.it was really good times. I could walk into a station pass the card and offer them $500 to $1000 bucks for decent 21a;s I remember one Illinois dept.#5715 and #6006 they wacked me for 5 g.I just added it to the pile.very few did what Roger and a few others and myself did. They talk about it.But never did it. I was glad they left it for me to get.no other way to keep that history around RON K.
Ryo
Ah.. Shotgun news. Great place to look at firearm ads. I remember the old day that thing was thick.. last time I looked at it a decade ago, it was super sad looking. I think they are now called Firearm News.. but never seen it. michaelkih
An mg42 went for almost 200k at the Morpheys auction. Rommel must have fired that one I guess Really? Why? I understand when people pay a premium at auctions, but paying 4x the value seems a little odd or fake to me. Anyone could ask a dealer ''Find me an MG42 for $100,000" and pretty much all of us that own one would sell ours in an instant and they could pick through and choose the nicest one. I'm having a hard time believing some of these auctions sometimes honestly. Edit: I looked it up and at least that one was something rare, being a 42/59 model. This recent one at $130,000 is nothing special and refinished. That's why I'm confused. Edited May 29, 2022 by michaelkih
