Sliding The Rib

Recommended Posts

Some have mentioned making mags altered for the Kahr work once again with GI standard guns. How did you move the rib? Did you apply heat? Where did you apply the force? Top of the rib, or bottom of the hole? Gonna give this a try, but don't want to mangle the sheet metal if I can help it. So I thought I'd get a bit of experienced advice first.

Thanks

Do not take the rib off. It will not go back on. You will bend it if you try. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif Trust me. Been there, tried that long ago. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif You can fill the hole with weld and redrill it to fit. Or send it to PK, he can do it.

If the rib (GI prints call it a ‘strip’) moves, it means big trouble. The strip is crimped to the body and to move it .100 will unlock it and allow the magazine body to be inconsistent with the receiver and you will not have a reliable magazine. This can lead to feeding problems, big time.

I have read others talk about driving the strip and am adamantly against the practice for any reason. If the strip is loose, it needs to be put back into it’s proper position and welded, so it stays there.

HMMMMMMM.....

Have a few mags that used to run great but no longer function quite right. Maybe I'll take a look at them.....

Also have a couple on which the bolt won't stay open after the last shot. Not sure how far up the follower is supposed to come?? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif
