dallasboy_75287
I want a spare actuator for my 1928. IMA lists an actuator for $185. http://www.ima-usa.com/p8c.html Has anyone ordered one? Are they USGI? Thanks
21 smoker
Dallas,... I bought two partial 28 kits and both bolts were Savage, one knurled, one plain...function was perfect...looked good too,FWIW.out. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif
gijive
Yes they are. I don't think they have any knurled ones left, at least they didn't the last time I checked. The complete 1928A1 parts sets they were selling had some knurled actuators, but the ones they are selling individually are the smooth knob type. Savage, Savage/Stevens, AOC and Remington all made WWII GI actuators. Your chances of getting a Savage made one are probably in your favor, since they seemed to make most of them. Maybe you'll get lucky and get one of the other manufacturers, which aren't as common.
PK.
Somebody bit my butt on this question not long ago so I just called IMA; they are not (and haven’t for several months) selling the actuator separately. You have to buy the kit which includes the bolt, lock etc. All GI parts from new to almost new guns. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif

Chopper28
The kit I bought from them about six months ago came with a knurled Savage actuator that looked to have been used very little.
ThompsonCrazy
Guys, I purchased 2 kits from IMA and I was not lucky enough to lotto a knurled actuator. Would anyone be willing to trade me a knurled for a smooth + CASH or possible other Thompson 28 parts? Thanks, Brent rupbre27@comcast.net
TN.Frank
http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif By "actuator" you mean cocking knob, right? $185 sounds kind of high for something so simple. I'd like to get a '28A1 style cocking knob and safty for my 27A1, I think the '28 parts look better. I'm sure that someone out there is making these parts and for much less then the originals cost. I'd think that a cocking knob shouldn't go for more then about $40 and the safty should be $25-$35. I'm still in the process of finding these parts, as I have just started looking, if anyone knows of a place that has them for a reasonable price please shoot me an e-mail. Talk to ya'll later. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif Also, I have a question, will the '28 actuator knob and paddle safty work on the '27A1? Thanks. Edited March 13, 2004 by TN.Frank
ThompsonCrazy
Frank, The paddle safety is the same/interchangable but the actuator is absolutely 100% different and non-interchangable with the semi version. My suggestion for your cocking handle in this case is to order a spare or use your original and have PK turn it into a representation of the 28 style. There are photos of this modification somewhere in the board and PK's contact info is in the FAQs. Try search to see if the photos are still avail. Hope that helps, Brent
TN.Frank
http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif That sounds like a good idea, it'd probably be cheaper to buy a spare cocking handle and have it modified. Does he carry the paddle safety or does anyone know where I can order one? LOL, you guys are right, these guns are somewhat of a "money pit", but it's a fun money pit. I think if I can get a '28A1 actuator, a paddle safety and an M1 style, non-adjustable sight that I'll be good to go, at least until I can save up the $600 or so to have Tommygunner convert the lower to take the removable '28 style stock. Thank god I only paid $650 for this gun, that gives me some room to modify it. Talk to ya'll later. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif
