Ermco Bar Quality Question

Recommended Posts

I know a guy looking to sell a full auto ermco bar in great condition . Does anyone know if its a well built gun? I remember reading there was a modern bar manufacture that had machining issue and did not fire very well. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks Brian

The ERMCO BAR receivers were made under the direction of Pony Maples, the president of RAMO In the early 1980s, and he used the initials of his name E.R.Maples as the manufacturer's business name. RAMO was a major defense contractor and made many NFA Brownings, .30s and .50s. The guns are excellent in quality and manufacture. I have handled a few over the years that were offered for sale at Knob Creek. If I recall, only about 60 or so were made.

I had an ERMCO BAR years ago and sold it to a friend. The gun was very well built. My serial number was B4X, and the serial number on top of the receiver is read with the barrel pointed to the right, unlike US military BARs. The BARs with the bad machining (not all of them) were the Group Industries. I've seen some that had the front of the receiver (just under the barrel) machined so that one side was visibly thicker than the other side.
