UD-M42 is in. Have been over run lately and have not had a chance to take any real good photos. These are just to say it is here.

I put the single mags in a rigger made pouch I picked up from a gent who had a M1 TSMG. He said it was original, he'd had it for over 35 years. He said he didn't think anyone was making repro's back then.

Anyone ever seen one of these rigger made pouches or heard of the "maker":

Thought I'd use this since I do not have any original web gear.

Planning to fire it later this week. Will let you know how it runs.

Sandman,

No related to your UD-M42, but I thought of you when I saw this. I have a MAS 38, but from what I read these pouches are really for the MAT 49, as they are of a larger size. You may already have some, but in case you might be interested. They are not mine, I just track MAS 38 things, in addition to others.

Sandman1957,

Congratulations on the new addition!

The font on that pouch does not seem like WWII era to me, off the top of my head. The pouch appears similar to some British manufactured reproduction pouches for the Thompson, but it has different markings.

Very nice Sandman. I got to fire one a few years back at TATA. Thanks again Dr. I. Very nice guns and easy to shoot.

If nothing else, the name on the pouch is a little odd. For rigger made, it seems strange that it's stamped.

I don't claim to know much about WWII canvas so don't take my thoughts on this with any more than a grain of salt. Just some observations.

I am sure the stamp was tongue in cheek. It could have been set up on a hamp rubber stamp, although I agree with David its suspect at best. However, it displays great, holds the mags and until (if ever) I find some original canvas, then this will have to do.

Does anyone have link to WWII sites with American Advisors carrying the UD-M42. I am trying to determine what side arm they used. It wouldn't make sense to carry the 1911 in 45 acp. Want to see if we can spot any pistols on these guys. My guess would be browning hi-powers, and then whatever they picked up.

Forgot to add, I talked to one of my friends and he is going to try and make me an extra spring set. Anyone off the top of their head know what would be the best spring to use? He is going to make the spare patterned "like" the SKS spring. Meaning, you can disassemble it. If he gets it to work, I am sure he'll make others for those that need / want one.

Now to start working on the Suomi Drum.
