Hello everyone! It is known that during the WWII began the process of simplification of the SMG. The choice of a new weapon was in the direction of compactness, simplicity and cheapness. The SMG could not solve all the problems on the battlefield, leaving the work with Auto Rifles, Machine Guns and a new class - Assault Rifles.

The role of SMG was reduced to melee weapons, later this class will be called - Personal Defense Weapon (PDW)

Few people know, but in the USSR already during WWII, options for such weapons were considered! It has never been adopted, but in my opinion, is worth mentioning.

If someone adds or fixes, I will be glad.

These guns are largely unknown here in the West.  Are there pictures?  Specifications?  Extant examples in museums?

You are right a lot of the weapons produced by the USSR are not known in the West, this was, of course, ideological reasons ... Some of the weapons I have listed are stored in various Museums now in Russia. Some additional photos on this topic ..
