You guys were asking where all the Thompsons were, looks like the BCR's are cashing out now that prices have skyrocketed. I did see the pre-May M1A1 sample at $5,500, too bad I'm not a dealer.

Ever notice these things run in a price jump/demand pattern (at least to me)

2 years ago it was M-16's with the intro of the Shrike design

Then cam the MG 42 (everyone likes a belt gun), THe Vector Uzi's came under pressure with Vector running out of them, then Mac-11's with Ernies M249/RPD conversion, then it was the FNC's when the sears were released, Hk sears got a bit hotter with the annoucement of someone making a 23E then the Thompsons=>

 

Not sure what is next after this but figure it will be something. WHat Am-180's ? 10-22's

 

Could be wrong, just my thoughts.

I figure the Ruger AC556 is a sleeper, as well as the American 180. Never know what the next hot ticket will be, but it is usually tied to the latest gadget. Interesting though, after the gadget becomes non-existent, the prices don't go back down. And yeah, I'm on the Shrike list with a receiver lying in wait.

 

I figure the Thompson prices are like pricing a piece of history. Just like lake property, they aren't making any more.

For example, whenever a large number of other 'sheeple' start doing something (investment/ collecting patterns), you can be certain that "it" will become and stay popular, for a while anyway!! Then, when reality bursts onto the scene (for example, changes in laws, economic patterns, or just tastes) many will wake up and ask, "what happened?" Remember the ".com bubble"...followed by the inevitable bust. What I am saying is, be careful, it's a jungle out there. I think AC556 will be a hot item when (if) the magazine ban drops. I here the same thing from AC556 owners and Mini-14 owners all the time: "they don't work well with aftermarket magazines, and original Ruger mags are outrageous."

Having had an AC556, I don't think a drum will be that good due to the barrel heating problems in the AC556.

 

Another gun that is a sleeper is the Norrell 10/22. Norrell has some more sears, which will hold the price to $6000 range, but you can bet the day he announces they are out prices will shoot up 50%.

The after market mags I got for my AC556 work great. It came with some original mags, and side by side, other than the lack of markings, they are identical.
