WTB mp40 mags

Recommended Posts

Slab sided mags were replaced with the fluted mags for a very specific and valid reason: they didn’t function well a lot of the time. The full contact of the cases against the inside wall and the angle at which they stacked created undue friction often stopping the feed. They are interesting as collectors items but can be frustrating for shooting. FWIW

Thanks Bob I was wondering why they were cheaper, I was thinking about buying some but not now. Only place I have seen any mags for sale is Gunbroker. I would think Germany would have a lot, must be hard to import?

FWIW I've had no trouble with slab sided mags, but then I don't try to run them under conditions originally encountered in the field. They're certainly appropriate for display with an MP-40 made in 1940 or '41, or an MP-38.

The flat sided mags did not fare well in n Africa so the mod was the ribbed design. I believe the Germans recalled the slab mags and the stamped them with grooves. I like the looks of the ribbed style anyway. I got a couple of really nice M.P. 41 mags at sar for $90 ea. All the others i saw at the show were $100 and up

If you look at the stamps on the backs of the mags, you can tell if it was originally a slab side that had ribs later added. From memory, I think it was a WaA37 stamp on the left top of the rear of the mag.

About all I shoot in my MP38 are slabsides and they all function perfectly. I cannot say the same about the ribbed mags.
