Blued NOS Pre-war M1918 Magazines on GB

Recommended Posts

I won a bid this week for four NOS blue pre-war Bar mags from MJ Gun Shop. When I called to pay for them the sales rep asked if I might be interested in purchasing more than four. Ended up buying ten. They are in route and I have a tracking number.

Apparently they have a few more:

Just a FYI for the guys with the A1918s and Colt 1918s.

Mags wont be here till next week; and, Ill be on the road. Might be able to post pictures by Friday. I would imagine that any mags they have left are going to be gone in a flash. If you have a Blued M1918, how often do you see NOS blued Pre-WW2 mags for sale?

The packages show A2 on them, so anything could be inside? The one pictured doesn't look to be as shiny as what I normally see? I could run up there and buy them since they are close, but packaged mags often have rust inside? Then you have to open them all to see what you got, sort of ruining the value? Hard call, at $20 I gamble, at $50 I want guarantees they are all good. The one pictured seems to show some rust? Any takers wanting to sponsor a ride up there today?

Got in late last night from my trip, too late to fool with opening the mags. So, after pouring a cup of coffee I opened up the shipment.

All ten mags were sealed in the manufacturers wax paper package with the nomenclature on it. Felt guilty about opening them up they looked so perfect; but, I purchased the rifle to shoot so I need mags.

All ten magazines are polished blued, with traces of preservative turned to a red shellac like substance. Swirls, lines, and spots of the red stuff covering about 5% of the area. One magazine had a very small rust spot on one side. It was about the size of a BB or smaller. Overall, I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

Now I need to purchase a gunners belt.

Just another note, I fully expect that the red shellac like substance can be carefully removed.

Also, these are POLISHED BLUED, not matte blue or parkerized.

Perfect for the A1918, the Colt/OOW M1918, or an original M1918 Machine Rifle.

I just ordered the seller's remaining stock of 7 mags. Thank you for posting the tip, I was looking for polished mags. Also appreciate your report of the magazine condition.
