Select fire "Selector" and "Stop"

I've just completed (I still have to do cosmetics) a BM59 with the exception of a few issues I was hoping someone could help me with. I milled out an M1 USGI receiver and shortened a barrel for a Numrich BM59 kit. I don't understand the select fire lever. I'm not trying to make it full auto, but in order to keep the front mag catch sleeve in place I wanted to install the selector lever. I have the pocket milled in the right side and opened up the left side pocket for the lever clearance itself. If I thin the front mag catch up enough for what I'm assuming is the retention clip that pivots around on the lever, the mag catch tab will be too thin. Additionally, doing that still doesn't explain the selector stop.

I'd also appreciate input on the lower band clip, is that a friction fit or is the barrel supposed to be turned down a bit for a positive stop? I'm familiar with the lower bands you can buy that use a roll pin, but I'd like to understand the band clamp. Right now its on with friction, but I suspect I needed to add a groove. I also feel the need to make it work for me after all the blood I spilled when a small screw driver impaled my finger during installation :)

Thanks in advance,

Well I think I've got it figured out so I thought I'd post it here in case anyone else has the same issue.

Full Auto receivers apparently have a groove with a hole to place the selector de-activator in:

What I thought was a retention clip is just an over center spring that probably just catches in the wood:

  • 2 weeks later...

Most of the M1 conversions being done use the 8mm front mag catch dowel without any of the select fire parts. It's an interference fit and doesn't usually require something to "hold" it in.

Other conversions use the original M1 hole and follower arm pin.

IIRC the BM59e barrel from the Sarco kit used a pin like the original M1 instead of the clip in the later models. You might try that.

Check out Tim Shufflin's BattleTested forums for much more information. He modifies receivers and builds the different models of BMs and there is an awful lot of awesome information.
