National Thompson Competition

Recommended Posts

I am conducting some research on several FBI agents of the 1930-1945 period. I am trying to substantiate a marksmanship competition held at Camp Perry for Thompson's. Can anyone provide information on the competition and the names of the men who won the competition/championship during the 1930-40 period? I appreciate any assistance in this matter.

Jack,

In the book "The Ultimate Thompson Book" it mentions classes conducted at Camp Perry on the Thompson gun.

It lasted for 3 years, 1929, 1930, & 1931. One TSMG was awarded to the highest scoring student each year.

Apparently a change of ownership at AO brought these schools to an end.

This took place before the FBI existed.

The names of the winners are,---

1929-Officer E. O. Davis, Little Rock, Ark

1930-Constable J. W. Guy, Columbus, Ohio

1931- Officer Frank Oehlsen, Chicago, Ill.

Is this what your referring to???

I thought I had something from the display I worked on for the 100th anniversary of the matches in 2003. I could have sworn their was an image of a Thompson competition that involved shooting from inside a bus. So far all I found was a vaguely captioned image showing Police training (and poor muzzle discipline). I have tried to attach the PDF.CentennialChronicles18.pdf
