Info Needed On The M3 Ammo Pouch

Recommended Posts

I have acquired a m3 ammo bag with a shoulder strap. Can some one tell me how many 30rd GG magazines these pouches were designed to carry. Here is a picture..

aren't the M3 mags bigger than the Thompson mags ? It would seem that it would hold mor TSMG mags than m3

The ones that I have (made of nylon) only hold 6 mags. These were supposed to be Vietnam issue. Jeff

Thats what this is VM. Its canvas though. If I stack them side ways to front it holds 6 loaded mags no problem but there is a little room for jiggling around. If I stack them facing forward it will hold 8, 2 deep and 4 across but the top is hard to fold over and I don't think I can close it if they are loaded, I haven't tried yet anyways. I didn't know if they were meant to hold just 6 or if the pouch had shrunk over the years...

We had them as part of our gear on M60A1/M60A3's in the late 70's/early 80's, we kept 8 mags in them, and never could get them to snap easily....

However, a Stanley stainless thermos fits in them just fine, we were issued those too. Ever hear of Gluwein? B)

Are we talking M60 Mags or M3 Mags and were they loaded mags ?

M60A1/M60A3's are 56 ton tanks, we had 2 Grease guns issued to each tank.

That's 8 loaded Grease gun mags(when they let us have ammo), in each pouch, again darn near impossible to close.

I have a pouch just like it upstairs, with 6 mags in it, they fit my Stemple, the 6 rattle around, with more than enough room for 8, but I can't close it even with 6 in.
