philk
Hello, I have inherited a 1927A1 Thompson from my Dad and have a question. The round magazine says it is from Bridgeport and the model is a 1928 L for 50 rounds. It looks like I am missing the winding key for it, as well as the third hand I have read about. I know the newer Thompson parts for the most part will not work on West Hurley models, but does anyone know if the newer drum keys will work on an old Thompson? How about newer third hands? If not, is there any place I can go to try and find these parts? Thanks for your help! Phil
Mike Hammer
It looks like Sarco Inc.has the drum key for winding your drum. https://www.sarcoinc.com/thompson-drum-key/

TSMG28
The latest keys will work, but not the earlier ones from Kahr and West Hurley. Make sure the the winding hey has a pad on the back side of the spring latch instead of a hole. The keys with the hole are for the earlier post-WWII drums, which have a solid hub instead of hollow like the Bridgeport drum you have. The ones from Sarco are recent and look like they will work. The third hand device is intended for the 1927-A1 guns to enable the bolt to be locked open to allow the drum to be removed. When you find one, it should work fine for you. It is not drum dependent. philk
Thanks to all of you for your help! I have gone ahead and ordered one and will give it a try when it arrives. My confusion came from the comments on most web pages that many of the more recent parts made by Thompson would not work on guns made in West Hurley (which is what I have). Can't wait to take it out to shoot!
