S.O.S. Smith and Wesson Model 76 repair!

Recommended Posts

I have recently purchased Smith and Wesson Model 76 in need of repair. The extractor is smacking the breech face of the barrel causing it to run irregularly. I'm not sure if it's the wrong extractor, the barrel is not correct, or any other possible problem. Does anybody know of a good repair shop that could look at it?

John Andrewski fixed my Burgess 76 clone http://johnandrewski.com/

BWE specializes in S&W 76s https://bwefirearms.com/

FWIW there are 2 different length 76 extractors out there. If the OEM version was replaced by the wrong aftermarket version that could be your problem. Scott Andrey seems to be out of the 76 business but he left lots of information up on his web site http://samachine.com/76%20Ext.htm

Good luck

Agree. That is most likely the cause of your problem

Yes, it is the Extractor! Getting one is very difficult at the moment. Richard Hoffman (BWE) makes these parts, but he is fighting cancer right now. He promised me to be victorious in is uphill battle with Stage 4 Colin Cancer and hopes to start delivering parts again in the spring. Check in on him here https://www.youtube.com/c/BWEFirearms

A properly fitted barrel would help as well.

John Andrewski has been a big help in diagnosing the problem. John is helping me with spare parts as we speak. John is flooded with work, but loves to talk machine guns!
