junglewalk
……..This photo is one of the few I have of my time as a tanker on a M-48a3 tank in Viet Nam...…..Once I arrived in the 1/1 Cavalry, I had my Mom send me, a german helmet, that my father picked up in the Hurtgen Forest , with the 78th Inf Div in 1945...…….I wore it, most of the time while on our tank, with ear-phones under it, and became gunner on our platoon sgt's tank...…….I filled in as TC, whenever our PSG was in the rear, and I got to know the M-2's headspacing and timing real well....……….I actually was wearing the helmet, chin-strap & all, when our tank was hit by a recoilless rifle round on 29 Apr 69, and I believe it saved my skull...….(an unusual photo indeed) Edited June 27, 2019 by junglewalk
Kilroy
A very cool photo. You must have gotten some looks from the old timers.
