mp40 rear sight wont flip up

Recommended Posts

Last time i shot my mp40 i tried to flip up the rear sight and it wouldnt go...it would go 1/2 way by force, but thats it..i assume the spring is broke? or out of allignment? i cant see the issue

the gun is recently refinished and flawless...so i do not want to scratch it up. is this a gun smith only thing? or is it simply pushing out the sight, swapping the spring and pushing it back into the dovetail? (i know my smith talked about it once and how the spring likes to fly out)

any advice?

Drift out the base, remove the old spring, clean out the recess, lay in the new spring with a bit of lube on top, have a tool ready to depress the edge of the spring when sliding the base back in, align the witness marks.

Use brass drift if you have one or steel, if not, with a piece of thick, packaging plastic held against the base. Clear plastic such as toothbrush packaging, etc. This will help mitigate scarriing of the finish. FWIW
