The photos are poor, but the lack of a sight wheel pretty much narrows this down to it being a Stemple made gun, with SN 007252 on the upper. (and another SN from Stemple on the lower).

So if I have ID'ed the gun correctly then its not C&R. Unfortunately, the 7252 gun shows no signs of being remanufactured.

What would warrant an asking price of 38K for this Porto, other than delusion?

Maybe the seller did some R&D, but is price is insane for that gun in that condition with that "other problem".

I would guess his asking price is based on other asking prices:

1. K. Lomont had a C&R Porto listed for $37.5K when he died, (remains unsold?)

2. Old 1919A4 WTS advert for a C&R Porto at $37K, (sold for way less)

https://1919a4.com/showthread.php?18314-WTS-Full-Auto-Armalite-AR10

3. RIA auction for a C&R Transitional AR10, ended at $36K

http://www.icollector.com/Exceptional-Original-Portuguese-Contract-Class-III-Fully-Automatic-Armalite-AR-10-Rifle-Produced-by_i14554764

Rifle 3 is 10x more rare than a C&R Porto so the $36K price is not of significance.

The AR10 Which was brokered Rory, was from the collection of Bruce Swallell. He was the machinist and All Things Colt Armalite and M14 expert who did work Neal Smith and Bob Landis. One super capable and knowledgeable man! It was he, who introduced me to my first FA AR10 in the 80's. What a wealth of knowledge, ascessories, liteture, tooling, spares and collection that was broken up and lost!
