Differences Between E4 & E6?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

What are the differences between the M60E4 & the M60E6 besides the gas system on the barrel?

The feed tray, where the links fall out is open at the top. The butt stock is different.

Few other cosmetic things. I actually like the look of the e-4 better. I added a mod or 2.

These are my pig and e-4.

There has to be other differences that were corrected in the E6 series.....

The only real major changes were the feed arm/ top cover on the E3 and some minor belt pawl geometry on later upgrades. Really from E3 on, it's mostly cosmetics. Internet rumor has the E4 gas piston system being worse than E3? I don't know I've never had an issue with any of them, but I don't run under "never cleaned, fight for my life" conditions. Being able to close the top cover without retracting the bolt is a nice feature to have, past that stocks and fore grips don't do much for me? Mine's set up mostly as E3 and with the bipod on the gas system vs. the barrel.....I still don't see match grade accuracy, nor had my trunnion worn down from the massive couple thousand rounds that have been run through the gun LOL. The railed top cover looks so sexy though! But then I'd feel compelled to put a $2400 Elcan scope on it to complete it? All of the above probably mean I'm just getting cheap?

$2400 ???? You need the $2895 1-6 Elcan Lol

I agree, the rail and the upgrades to the E-4 mod 1 top cover can't be beat.

That's the one, plus 1500 for the cover. My pricing must be outdated.....like everything else I have!

Is the reticle microscopic like the older Elcan I have? I can't read any of the numbers? Course it's a MG and probably not relevant anyhow at 300 yards?

I know I should just man-up, buy the E6 kit and the scope, but last I looked that whole package would be 9K or so? Sure does look good though!

Mine is an E-4 (MOD 1) and I will check the scope.

I don't think anything past E3 is a "government" product. The gun was effectively designed by the gov. then contracted out to manufacture. The government stopped development pretty early on and anything past that is really private companies labeling revisions as their own, not actual government revisions or updates AFAIK. Reliability issues with M60's were mostly overcome with E3 improvements. Gas cylinder, second sear notch, top cover feed arm, bipod relocation, shorter/lighter barrels.

Adding rail space and lightening cuts may be an improvement depending on who you ask?

Very informative video. I love watching Larry. I've seen it before. Other than the triple notch on the op rod being different between the E4 & E6 the comparison is from the original M60 and not the E4. They glaze over the details. I assume it is to protect the patents on the E6. Oh well.....
