M60 Links

Recommended Posts

I have been buying my ammo already on new links from UNAMMO

Target sports also had a great deal on new Lake City ball.

I know that's not what you asked but something to consider since you get the can and links with the ammo.

Often when people find out you have an M60, links find you. I've never bought any links other than linked ammo and the containers people have given me since it's only a 60 and 240 effectively that use them so they are pretty useless for most folks. I use belts in the 21E since links kind of suck for recreational shooters who reuse stuff. As you link the ammo it's not hard to spot the bad ones if you have any at all. They are very durable and last until you bend them....generally during a jam or if you tweak them while linking by having one out of position when pulling the handle. If you are going to buy them I'd also recommend oldsarges. Finding a USGI linker is really tough if you're into collecting retro stuff, but the aftermarket ones work as well or better. HTH

I link for my Strike by hand. Every-time my Strike stops it is always link related. Now, when I'm linking when I find one that doesn't link smoothly it goes in the garbage. I would prefer " new " links if they can be had.

UNAMMO seems to be out of linked .308 at the moment. TargetSports shows linked LC in cans and then shows the canvas bags that hold 100 rounds but makes no mention of it in their ad description. The Malaysian .308 is readily available all over and at a much cheaper price. I don't mind linking a little....

I guess i will start picking them up. I leave them on the ground after i shoot.

I did just get a bunch from Target sports because it didn't have the tracers. Looks like nice stuff. All the UNAMMO stuff i have is 4-1

Looks like UNAMMO got the factory, belted, Lake City ammo back in stock. It has the 4-1 tracers which I don't like but depends where you are shooting it I guess.

Cans in crates. I think there will come a day we look back and dream of an item like this. I stocked up.

I reuse links constantly. There is no reason not to- as long as they are not bent. M13 links are really easy to reload / relink, and I sit and watch a movie to link them. If you need "new" links, I have a cardboard carton of 1300 +/- that were new factory ammo from ATK fired in a test stand and are about as close to new as you can get to "new". I set them on a shelf in the shop and forgot about them. There were fired in an M134 to test the mounting system, and never touched the ground. PM me if you need some.

I used to have the trainee Marines save me a shopping bag full when we policed up the training areas, and I would bring them hope in my luggage. We fired a lot of linked blanks in 249s and 240s for MOUT training. , Had to be cleaned up anyway. I have a big tub of them in the shop ( I have A BARREL of M9 50 cal links in case anyone needs some) , but I re-use the links so I dont go through many from damage. Stepping on them is the worst. I will run them through the untra-sonic cleaner and re-oil, then let them dry. Same for the MG-34 /42, RPD, Maxim etc metal belts.

Got some links with a hole and just got some from Old Sarge without holes....hummmmm.....

Just depends on who made them. there are "small hole" links, "big hole" links and "no hole" links. My guns don't care which and I don't sort them.
