3D Modeling comes full circle -1928 Thompson Display Receiver

A few months ago, I got into a heated debate about 3D modeling and the inherent pit falls of manufacturing, so I decided to put my model/drawing to the test. There is a huge learning curve when reproducing these parts. You need an in-depth hands-on knowledge of the receiver and how all of the components/features interact together. You need a correct blueprint with accurate tolerances and dimensions. After all that you have to spend a small fortune to have your prototype made. It was a fun project and im glad I did it.

 

Side note: Im going to be getting a prototype sample of the 1921 actuator made soon. I will have an update by the end of the year.

nice work, few years ago I 3D printed a half size 1928, the internals sort of worked after some fitting, been thinking doing a M1A1 to sit beside it not found the time to draw it in cad, it takes many hours to get the cad file drawn up

 

Are you going to anodize the receiver? what are you doing for engraving?
