michael
Hi everyone... This is my first post to the board but I have been reading it for some time. I would like to know everyone's thoughts on having a 28a1 savage refinnished. The gun is currently parkarized but the barrel is blue. There are upper and lower matching serial numbers. The gun also has what I think are British proofs (broad arrow?). I will take some photos and post pictures of the thompson in the next few days. What does everyone think? michael
gijive
Hi, Don't do anything hasty! The finish might be original. It was common for guns to have a rough black oxide finish on the reciver and frame (which resembles parkerizing) and blued barrels. I would have an expert gunsmith look at it before you do anything to it. If the miltary proofs (broad arrow, etc.) have some bare metal showing it probably is an original finish gun. The proofs were stamped after the finish was applied. Post some pictures if you can.
hawksnest
Questions: Does the barrel have any british proof marks ? Is the top of the receiver marked "tommy gun"? Is the gun marked "U.S. Property"/ What is the serial number (xxx for last three)?
