Hawkeye_Joe
It's in England, 1928 with a "C" drum Demill Thompson http://www.classicfirearms.co.uk/1928%20WITH%20100RND%20MAG.jpg
Ron Mills
I may be going to London next month to play for a wedding; I really want to see some of those "old spec" deactivated Thompsons...or do I??? It may throw me into deep(er) depression.
Zamm
Ron, Take it from me, DON'T do it! It will leave you quite depressed... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif Every now and then I'll stumble into a surplus store in Belgium or Holland.Bad move. All these goodies at reasonable prices and no way to bring em back. It drives me nuts. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif It is the same way in entomology. If you bring back a dead bug, let's say a fly, without the proper paperwork, you can be arrested for smuggling. We are not talking Rhino horns or Elephant tusks here, just a dead fly. But the law treats it the same. Country you are bringing the dead fly from does not give a sh*t, even if you could get paperwork they would laugh at you. It's our customs that nail ya. It seems that you should be able to bring in parts, but theoretically, even a screw from a Thompson can land you in trouble. So, you see all this great stuff but you have to just pass it up. Don't even mention Ex-East Block country’s flea markets! You will go back to your hotel and hang yourself! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif Best, Zamm
Ron Mills
Zamm: Aww, I wouldn't hang myself in the hotel room (unless I didn't get paid), but I see exactly what you're sayin'. I can just imagine you walking out of the surplus store in Begium or Holland, folks giving you a little extra space on the sidewalk as they see the look in your eyes. Oy, what to do? Nuttin', that's the deal. So, on we go. I'll try to resist the temptation to look. Man, just one 'C' Drum. See, there I go again. Thanks for cooling me down before it happens. This board is very therapeutic (did I spell that right?).
Zamm
Ron, Naw, actually it's fun. Was in London last year and went to a flea-type outdoor market. Actually picked up some old WWII German things, (goggles, etc...), but what I couldn't get... Man! Back in 94' walked through the sunday outdoor market in Liege, Belgium (Fabrique National town), I think FN must have been giving out stuff since the 20's, and everybody was selling what was in thier atic! Never again! Have a great trip, rent a saftey deposit box at a London bank, buy a C drum, deposit it and who knows, perhaps in a few years the laws will change and home it can come! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif Zamm
Mk VII
I looked at two Savage 1928 deacts which my friends had bought on last Sunday. They cut the forward part of the bolt off and weld it in place. Rear half is welded to the actuator, which can reciprocate (but not stay cocked). The lock is gone. Safety and fire selector are locked in place.
pmlogg
The C drum for sale with that deact is a West Hurley not a Colt - I asked!
Ron Mills
Zamm, pmlogg: OK, I feel better...I think. Zamm, your idea of the safe deposit box in London town is a right grand idea. pmlogg, thanks for checking on the C drum.
