This has been the home of the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) since the 1870's. Pre 1920 they were known as the North West Mounted Police. I got a few pics of the Colt serial #1674, museum and surrounding training base known as "Depot" to members of The Force. The other remaining '21 owned by the Mounted Police is on 10 year loan to a museum in Yellowknife, North West Territories. Unfortunetly I had a very limited time that our van load of guys had to stop and get the pics. The pics are taken with the '21 behind the glass and as such I have to apologize for the quality and reflection http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif . If I have posted too many and are taking up valuable space please let me know. Start with an overall picture of the enterance to the museum. To the right is the Force chapel. It used to be the Officer's mess hall, and is the location where Louis Riel was hung in 1885?. Riel was the leader of the uprising that became to be known as the North West Rebellion. He was found quilty of treason and strung up directly behind the chapel building. The museum is outstanding, and you could count on anywhere from 2-4 hours. As per a lot of pictures, they do not do the Colt any justice. This SMG is in basically unfired condition. The blueing is immaculate! The wood does not have a ding, chip or any other blemish. Some of the flicks I've seen show some wild stuff, like the snow capped mountains in the province of Saskatchewan. Yikes, http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif Saskatchewan is about as hilly as your computer desk top. We did the 13 hour drive from Calgary to Winnipeg on God's most boring highway. There are literally times when you can look around and not be able to see a tree. I have to add, that if you do go anywhere near the City of Regina, pop. 150,000, about the only real thing to see is the MP museum. The city itself is not the most picturesque. Oh ya, it is a long way from anywhere that may have a seal skin. Maybe a pelt from the nefarious four legged bull gopher, but I am trying my best to ensure that they do not charge and hurt an innocent person http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif . koldt Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Share Posted June 29, 2004 Actually, page 408 of Hill's book shows this 21 being purchased by the RCMP. They have retained it ever since, and this is it. Wonder what this gun would go for at auction, under ideal circumstances, ie. able to be imported into the US etc. Also on page 411 shows serial # 1925 being purchased by the Winnipeg PD. Winnipeg (Winterpeg) is also shown on the mapquest. That's where I spent the weekend. I was shooting with Winnipeg's armourer, and asked him about the 21. They have 3 Thompsons in stores, but all 3 are M1A1's. He was not aware of 1925 so I will be faxing him a photo copy of the pages of the book.
