Norm
This is not exactly on topic, but I hope that someone could answer a question about NFA transfers for me. Has the BATFE changed the way they proccess the forms? My C3 mailed off the forms, fingerprint cards and the checks (for two transfers) for the tax five weeks ago and the checks still have not cleared my bank? The only info I can get from the NFA branch phone number is "it is not in the system yet." Has anyone else had to wait this long for them to cash the checks? On my other transfers, the checks cleared within a week. I hope I'm not looking at a "lost in the mail" problem! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif Thanks, Norm
Z3BigDaddy
He did send it to WV right? I heard everything was going faster. I have a suppressed Ruger going thru right now but have not called to see its status maybe I should. BTW I didn't know you had more guns in the hopper.... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/nono.gif Aren't you supposed to announce it here first? Norm
Z3, The new gun is an Ingram M10/9 and Bowers CAC-9 supressor. The M10 looks like it has only been tests fired. It was made in 1972. The CAC-9 is new production. I was told by NFA branch that the checks go to Chicago. I found this out shortly after posting this topic. He said that it could take up five weeks, and that I should wait until the begining of 2006 and call back then. The only positive factor about this is that my C3 owns the range I shoot at, so I can shoot it. I just can't take it home. BTW, it runs like a dream but mags are expensive! John in IN
That was the mistake I made on my transfer. I went for about 6 months with no check cashed and my C3 kept telling me to just wait. I finally posted on Bowers board asking how long it is taking for checks to cash thru Chicago. I said I had been waiting 6 months and everybody said the check usually cashes within 2 weeks, something is wrong with my transfer. I passed this info on to the C3, we resubmitted the paperwork again and bingo, the check cashed in a week and a half! My first one was either lost in the mail, or he never sent it in the first place. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif I think I'll use a different C3 on the next one. Good luck. John
DC Chris
I transferred a MAC-10 and a CAC-9 a few months ago. The paperwork was sent to Chicago and my checks were cashed within the week. Paperwork was back and approved in about 90 days from West Virginia. I have probably done about 4 or 5 transfers in the last two years and I never had a check not get cashed in any more than 5 working days. Maybe I am lucky.... I am about to transfer a M1 Thompson myself. I will let you know when my check is cashed after the CLEO signs off (about 3-4 weeks). I usually send the paperwork myself (cause I am paranoid) via priority mail with delivery confirmation. It is only a few bucks. Chris.
Roland, Headless Thompson Gunner
I've sent my three transfers to Chicago via two day priority mail and the check cashes within another day or two of arrival. But then it took them 10 days or more to send the paperwork back to DC. My last check cleared on Oct 23 and the Form 4 just arrived on Dec 20. That was a two month improvement over the last two. I'm guessing thats the WV office. I'm looking for FedEx to arrive Monday with a slightly late, but totally welcome Xmas present.
full auto 45
I always send the paperwork and check EXPRESS MAIL. Someone has to sign it and it is there the next morning. Usually the check is cashed that same day they get it.
Norm
Well, the checks finally cleared the bank for my two transfers today (1/6/2006.) They were mailed on 11/15/2005.http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/buttkick.gif I've got a feeling that this transfer is going to take looooooong time to clear! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/banghead.gif
PK.
I always send priority mail with delivery confirmation- it’s cheap but I know if got delivered. Last check cleared 5 days after receipt by ATF. It sound to me like your package went to the wrong place and had to find it’s way home, we’ll likely never know. Think positively about the rest of the process- good vibrations you know…… http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Jay Baker
I see posts of people not having their check clear in weeks. Mine have always cleared in a week, what few I've sent. But like PK says, I get signature and delivery confirmation.
