Deputy
Just bought a new Kahr/Auto Ordnance M1 Carbine. It appears they have made some modification not listed on their website. My version has the newer upgrades on it. Round bolt, bayonet stud, and wing-type safety. Mag release is marked "M" but I have an underlined "M" on order along with M2 handguards (they put on metal ventialted ones) and sling and oiler. Overall it looks pretty nice. Will take it out to the range soon to see how it performs. Dep
full auto 45
Heard good and bad about them. Originals were in the rough. Feed ramps were rough and caused jams. Let us know how it runs.
Ron Mills
Dep: What's the going price for these? You mentioned you ordered replacement stuff; will the gun accept original GI parts, or do they have to come from Kahr? Thanks, Ron
Deputy
Well here's the update on replacement stuff. The M2 original handguards turned out to NOT fit. They were too long. I could trim down the front wood lip on them and they would fit, but I decided against that. They were also slightly wide for the buttstock. The handguard wood "hangs over" the stock. I thought maybe it's because the stock was an M1 version, then I remembered installing M2 handguards on military M1 stocks and they fit perfectly. So I didn't install the handguards. The M2 magazine release installed and works perfectly. The sling and oiler installed with no problem. As far as I know, everything else on GI Carbines will interchange with the Kahr/AO Carbine. I have seen earlier version of the Kahr/AO M1 Carbine selling for $800. These were the "original" style Carbines with no bayo stud, flip sights, and pushbutton mag release. Mine went for $650. DougStump
Dep, I think you may be backwards. It's my understanding that the carbines with the late features are the old production, the "early" ones are the new production made from the original drawings where possible. Deputy
Doug: I stand corrected. You are right. The early feature Carbines are the newest ones. No wonder I couldn't find ANY at any dealers I went to!!! Thanks for the correction http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Dep

Deputy
Sorry I took so long to reply. Got married on 6/17 and my new wife was kind enough to accompany me and my best man to the range the next day. The Kahr M1 Carbine was EXCELLENT!!! I used some Tetra gun grease to lube the bolt and op rod and it gobbled up Winchester white box ammo like there was no tomorrow. I only had one problem...and it was magazine-related. I had converted my mag release from the "M" to the "M" with an underline so that I could use 30 round mags. For some strange reason, the two mag detents on the magazine that hold the mag into the rifle sheared off. I suspect this was due to the new mag release. I think it is aftermarket...probably Chinese or some other 3rd world make. I switched back to the "M" version the rifle came with and it appears to hold the mag securely in the housing. There is also the possibility that the mag Kahr gave me was already on it's last legs. It was an original military GI issue mag that was reparkerized. Normal original mags are blued steel. They parkerized it to hide the pitting from corrosion. Luckily, 15 shot mags are readily available and relatively inexpensive. So I have a bunch of spares. The Carbine has a strange sound when you hear it fire. My buddy brought along a FN/FAL paratrooper and it made a loud BLAM wheh it fired. The Carbine had a much more subdued, almost pleasant "thud". And it felt like a .22 when I fired it. Zero recoil and a ball to shoot. I checked the parts for wear after firing, and other than some finish wear on parts that rub together, everything looked to be perfectly normal. I give the little blaster two thumbs up. I just wish Kahr put the same care into building their semi-auto Thompsons http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif Dep
