Rust's Sunday Best

Recommended Posts

Got up at the crack of dawn this day and headed to the range. Got there just as the sun hit the tree line. It was so peaceful, the birds were singing and the deer were grazing at the far end of the range...

...I set up my typewriter and got to work...

Then.....ratatatat!

I also shot some video and edited together this short (well, 6 megabyte) video clip.

Tribute Thompson Quicktime Video

You may need the Apple Quicktime viewer, available from the Apple.com site--it's free to download-- but it is set up to be viewable by itself.

http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif Awesome video Chris!! indeed, John Taliaferro Thompson would be proud of your tribute! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif I do have one thought though, have you ever thought of removing the sling swivel from the butt stock?

Thanks, guys! Glad you all are enjoying it (and can view it--my Dad couldn't get it to load for some reason).

MP40: By a staggering coincidence, PK suggested the same thing, and I sent my backup stock off to a wood master to have the hole for the swivel patched. Then, I'll go about refitting it with the hardware and see if I can stain it to match.

Chris--

Couldn't get the video to work. It said I didn't have appropriate decompressor.

Also, I have a question, did you get a new violin case? I thought the one you had was tan brown.

http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif SGT now that you mention it, that's what i thought too... possibly a trick of light? most of the photos that Chris has displayed for us have been indoor photos...Chris? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif

Nope, that is the same violin case I've been working out of since day one. Must be the lighting. Oh yes, some were shot under evening sunlight, and the recent updated period pieces under 3200K floodlamps. Lots of odd color temps there.

I hate that some of you cannot seem to view the movie. I know one trick that should work. You see, the link is posted as a self contained movie, which means it will play on a vast number of machines without extra software. However, if you don't have the right decompressor, there is trouble. I think it is compressed under sorensonvideo.com compressor, but I have no idea what that means. Now, if you downloaded the file, and it took forever, but you got an error or a red "X", then try going to FILE>SAVE AS in your browser, and see if the file name pops up TRIBUTE.MOV. If it does, save it to your hard disk and then go and download the Quicktime viewer from Apple.com. It is free, takes some time, but is what you will need to view my native Apple (damn Olympus for using that format) movie files.

When I down load a video, I always right click and select "save as" usually, I know beforehand what formats that I can play. the codects(sp) for all of the videos are available on the web even the obscure ones.

Rust, great pics and the film was excellent (long too-which was great, a definite keeper)! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
