I just returned from a family vacation in England. And it quickly devolved from a Castle finding tour to a full on Antique Store rummaging, how many can we find vacation. I want to thank Richard for posting the above pamphlets, as I would never have known of their existence. I was able to find one the pamphlets on my tour ( Small Arms training Pamphlet from 1944), in a little town called Horncastle, near the city of Lincoln. I felt as if I had struck gold! My wife was less impressed.... So thanks again Richard!

My oldest son, purchased a book titled "Britain's Modern Army Illustrated" which has 2 pages referencing the Thompson. Unfortunately, we can not find a publish date anywhere, in it. I am sure it is almost certainly "pre-Sten", since there is no mention of it in the book.

I found 2 sentences interesting: "Finally in the platoon there is one sub-machine gun. At present this is the American Thompson gun at (pounds) 45 apiece!"

Richard, have you come across this book before? Specifically the publish date? Any help is appreciated.

And to not violate the "unwritten rule" of not posting pics of purchases, here is a picture of the Small Arms manual-1944, that had me dancing in an antique store, setting back the image of Americans for at least a few years.

Andy,

Great find on the Modern Army book with TSMG content. I don't recall seeing those illustrations previously.

Also, congratulations on finding an SAT-21 pamphlet in an antique store in England.

Thanks for posting!

Andy,

My apologise for late reply, I have been away in North Africa working for five weeks and over there I can not access gun related websites etc., as they are deemed "politically incorrect". As I said before, I'd like to know who has the authority to decide what is and isn't "politically correct", but that is another story.

Congratulations on finding the SAT 21 and also on your sons find, Britain's Modern Army Illustrated, I have not seen that one before, but I will be looking out for it now.

I know Horncastle and Lincoln very well; and the SAT 21 and 'Britain's Modern Army Illustrated' are nice finds.

Most wives' must be the same, my wife would not be impressed too!

I hope you all enjoyed your vacation in the UK.

Stay safe

Richard
