deerslayer
Sorry to report that my shop/garage is a total loss from a fire last night. Along with it all my wood working tools, and the jigs and patterns that I was using to make stocks. Also lots of fine walnut lumber, a couple vehicals, the list could go on.... We were not at home when it started and the fire did not make it into the house so we are thankful for what we still have. There will be a delay in my ability to take any stock work orders on until things can get rebuilt. Merry Christmas everyone and God bless you. First Sergeant
Dan, Such a terrible thing to occur at anytime, especially during the holidays. full auto 45
Sorry to here of the loss. Fires can be a devastating thing. But the most important thing is no one was hurt and you still have a home to stay in. All that other stuff is just material and can be replaced in time. giantpanda4
Dan, Extremely sad news - especially around the holidays. The most important thing is definitely that you are all safe and sound. Hopefully out of all of this there will be some kind of silver lining - the good people like you always land on their feet! I am terribly sorry and wish you the best! and FWIW... this is on evilbay right now! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MEWA:IT
Walter63a
Dan, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif As far as stress goes, it is said that three moves are equal to one fire (dwelling being completely burned). Even so, this is, I'm sure very stressful. Realizing this, it is important to remember what you still have (a healthy family, your dwelling, your life, your skills, and your many friends) and focus on the future success you will inevitably have. May God watch over you and yours, now and always. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif Sincerely, Walter
deerslayer
Thanks everybody for all your warm heartfelt wishes. We were lucky in all senses of the word. Insurance appears to be going to cover most of it. Any way we are going to get started Jan 3 on the rebuild. My father in law (lucky for me) is a carpenter and we are going to the front of the list for rebuilding. I'm going to add an actual shop to the garage so wood working dust will no longer get on the cars (my wife hated that). Biggest surprise was when you start adding up the stuff that accumulates in a garage and how valuable it is when you will have to replace it. I'll probably go way over my insured amount in the end. I figured I had over $4,000 just in walnut lumber. No wonder it burned so good and hot! Free advice for anyone out there, walk around the house and video tape everything with a little running commentary. Wish I had done that. Trying to build a list from my memory is tough! Hawkeye, thanks for the offer of the gun parts, I've sent an email. Merry Christmas guys. Dan

Hurridale
Dan, Add my best wishes to the list, along with gratitude that no one was hurt. Having a set of your excellent woodwork on the Colt in my safe makes this fire more personal to me. The outstanding work and service you provided during our deal made me really feel this misfortune. This is not just a personal loss to you, Dan, but it should be regarded as a loss for the Thompson community. You do first-rate work and are a valuable resource to keeping these fine old pieces in an honorable condition. It's good to read that it sounds like you'll be back on your feet soon. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and you can get that new shop up and running soon. In the meantime, a word for those who may have had their replacement wood delayed by the fire: Hang in there -- the wait WILL be worth it! Regards, and wishes for the best of holidays, DC
