Colt M1919 AMR

Recommended Posts

Here are some pics of a recent addition to my collection, a Colt M1919 AMR. This rifle is almost the same as the M1918 Colt except the operating spring is in the butt stock. This rifle, like the Colt TSMG is a commercial gun. The photos will show that the butt stock, gas adjuster, and front site are not original. By adding all the Colt M1919 guns in Jim Ballou's book, I came up with 339 guns. I did not count R75 & R80 guns nor any foreign caliber guns. So--I may have a one of 339 BAR. Can anyone out there add more info on this AMR??? Jim C

Sandy,

I can't make out anything but the numbers. Junkyardslug had similar stocks for sale at one time, perhaps he will enlighten us.

In any case its a poor quality stock and I have already contacted Dan Block about making a proper stock in the future.

Thanks to all for the comments.

Jim,

Are you looking into replacing the non original parts?

Nice find.

Darryl,

Well, sort of.

I'm not going to waste time looking for an original butt stock. I plan on having Dan Block make one. From what I have read Dan will make a stock every bit as nice as Colt would make.

I have already bought a Enfield front site. Seems like the same as the BAR site.

I think the gun should have a gas adjustor without a hole in the front end. For the time being I plan on using one with a hole. If I find some thing better, fine, if not I won,t sweat it.

SO far everything seems to be Colt.

Jim,

I'll look at my stash of BAR stuff. I may have everything you need including the commercial but stock.

I will not be home until the weekend though.

Jim,

Don't forget about the FBI Colt Monitors, I 'm pretty sure Larry has that information on his web site. Does Jim address this in his book ?

Where are all the BAR experts, when we need them. I'm just a learning hacker on the subject.

I've seen that photo on Larry's site I think... Never really looked if they were 18s , doubt I could tell if they were 19 Colt Commercials.

My 45 year , geez maybe 50 now, research has been about the Barrow/Hamer guns. Learning all the time.

Jim, you've entered the BAR Twlight Zone on the 19 Colts..

CJL & I analyse dust on Dillinger/Nelson guns. We'll all keep at it.

Sandy,

Where are all the BAR experts??? Good question.

I have reread the BAR posts going back to 2003 several times. What seems to be the case is, the most knowledgeable BAR experts have long since abandoned this forum. Some disappeared over 10 years ago.

Probably not enough posts to keep their interest and not enough BAR owners.

I guess BAR owners are much scarcer than Thompson owners.

Nice gun, Chilean export model I believe ( Ballou book ) beautiful weapon.

Jim C- notice the short charging handle, gas regulator and barrel-thread protector on this 19.

Annihilator,

Very nice. Does the pistol grip have a small "c" with arrow stamped on the bottom??

If you have ever read the riot/trench gun forum, you'll note that dalbert has a picture section where the various makes are featured.

It would be nice to have such a section for the BAR photo's and yours would be a good starting point. Its a really nice BAR.

Thanks for posting.

Here's an update on this Colt AMR as posted on post #1.

This Colt came with a padded jump case.

Yesterday I examined the case more closely.

In the muzzle end of the case I found a paper rolled into a ball and compressed to the size of a large egg.

Upon unravelling the paper I discovered an ATF form 5, dated Sep 26 ,1973, for the above rifle.

This form transferred the gun from the State of Utah to a gun dealer.

I checked Jim Ballou's book on page 97 and learned that 10 Colt Auto rifles were sold to Salt Lake Hdwe in 1922.

May 5th -2 guns

May 31st -2 guns

June 7th-6 guns

I imagine these guns went to State prisons or Stated police and my gun may have been in the group.

Any Utah collectors out there who could add to this.

Which organization holds the records for these BAR shipments?

I thought the Colt Archive Service located in the Colt factory did not have any shipping ledgers for full auto small arms?
