dam6
Does anyone offer a service of taking a semi-auto magazine and bring them back to GI specs (full-auto) ?
huggytree
why? no shortage of thompson mags...i bought a ton of mags, some were egged...i just sold them and kept the good ones id think it would cost more to fix than the mag is worth
Vettom
Why not? While some may have stocked up on mags in the past and dont need any some of us may want to add to the piles of mags we have since theres no year end clearance sale going on. I dont know if it is cost effective but for your user mags maybe so.
ThompsonCrazy
dam6, I've thought about the same thing! I have a patent date mag that has been modified for semi which would be a great candidate. I've used it for display but think a laser welder could add material in the least damaging fashion and then I could dress it down. The trick may be to select the right filler to accept blue touch up as well as be hard enough to stand up to wear. Google laser or micro welders in your area or small enough to ship. There are some youtube videos showing the process. Very little heat issues and precise! Let us know if you try it out on some USGI mags for trial run. huggytree
if you take a patent mag, tweak it...odds are its still visible...still a $50 touched up/shooter grade mag vs a $75-100 collector.... dont see the value in bothering....there is no shortage of mags or patent mags....when patent mags are $250-500 then yes, its worth it....but as they are $75-100 in nice shape why bother thinking about it. to each his own.... ppgcowboy
Why ruin a mag when you can modify the mag catch, always been my stance. Edited December 18, 2018 by ppgcowboy
Motorcar
PK did some for me years ago. They turned out nice. Did not charge much at all. Close inspection shows the repair but they look great in the gun and at the firing line. Mine aren't for sitting in display glass with notation on the historical significance of a weld or crimp for the adoring public. "To each his own..."
