Remington M31 Trench Gun !?

Recommended Posts

Perhaps someone from the experts heard about the prototype Remington Model 31 Trench? I have information that

in 1942 a prototype was released. But he was not in demand as there were enough Trench Guns from Winchester, Ithaca and Stevens. Maybe someone knows or has a photo of this prototype?

Thank

I'm not aware of any Model 31 trench guns being produced by Remington and procured by the Military during WWII. According to Swearengen in his book "The World's Fighting Shotguns", the bayonet adaptors designed for the Winchester and Stevens shotguns did not fit the Model 31 properly, so that is why none were produced. The only photo I've seen of one is in a post WWII manual, and it's the first two photos in your original posted message. Are those photos from the post War manual?

Maybe. They were found by me once at one of the forums ...

The only known of a Remington Model 31 "trench gun" is the example shown above that was in the 1949 dated TM 9-2200. It is likely this was a "one of" as there was no procurement of Remington Model 31 trench guns by the U.S. government.

And there you have it. Bruce literally "wrote the book" on the subject of US combat shotguns.
