M3A1 Transferable

Recommended Posts

Have a tentative deal with the seller, but on the Form 4 it states in Box 4a:

GENERAL MOTORS DIV

USA GUIDE LAMP

INTER AMERICAN IMPORT

EXPORT COMPANY SACRAMENTO CA

Ok, most of us who have Pre May 1986 NFA stuff are familiar with this company as it is listed on many Form 3s and their import stamps on many of these firearms. He is another FFL/SOT and has an ATF eForm account. So he was able to access his account and create a draft F3, as the data populated in his inventory he was able to see that the data base showed a Form 2 and nothing else.

I recently purchased an Ingram M6 on a F3 that was eFiled and the Form populated the same way and it was approved.

My concerns are that what the form may state on the transfer paperwork may not be what the NFA has in their data base. I have had the NFA ask me to measure a transferable UZI as it was not what they had on the F2.

Also, some of us know of guys who have purchased what they thought we transferables on a F4 from another SOT holder and it transferred as a sales sample instead. I spoke with one of the NFA dealers at the SAR show last weekend and he has had that experience.

Has anybody else have the same information on a transferable GL M3A1 as listed as above or similar?

I know that the are very few transferable GL M3A1s out there and most seem to have been Amnesty registered or rewats. Yet, if it was indeed registered on a Form 2 and imported by Inter American as a pre 1968 import and not a dealers sample. Then that would make sense. But, wouldn't they use a F6 instead?

There are no import markings on the firearm and I do not know if GL put any of the 1945 manufactured M3A1s on Form 2s.

A positive note, no money has changed hands yet as the seller and I agree that a FOIA request should settle any concerns. It went out on Monday.

I once had a MP44 years ago that was originally imported on a F6 in 1946 by the soldier who procured it and I still have a copy of that paperwork.

Thanks for any information that any of you guys may have had over the years...

I don't have a copy of my F4 for my M3 but it is not listed as Guide Lamp under "manufacture" as it was an imported DEWAT. When it transferred we just copied the paperwork word for word (I believe the "manufacture" is the import company) and I had no issues with it.

If it was imported as a DEWAT it would have been on a F2 then made work it by a dealer it would be then transferred on a F4. Had an individual had done it while on a F2, he would have had to file an F1 then waited until the F1 was approved.

FWIW...

The seller’s FOIA paperwork came back and as I suspected, it was a Pre 86 sale sample.

There were too many red flags on the paperwork.

He has it on a Form 4.

It transferred as a Sales Sample, until it reached him.

I think that this gentleman was the exception...

We passed on the purchase, for the obvious reasons...

Inter American Import/Export Co, imported many of thier Sales Samples in the early 1980s. They used a Form 2 for Importing thier Pre Mays. Something that I did not know. I was told at one time that they where also a C2 manufacturer. Do not know if they possessed a 08 SOT during that time,

Good information to have if anyone else may have a similar situation...
