TSMGguy
For starters, this is a mismatched, worn, and refinished gun. What am I missing?
StrangeRanger
For starters, this is a mismatched, worn, and refinished gun. What am I missing? The fact that it can be had for $26.5K. It's not a collector-grade piece but it may or may not be a good deal on a shooter grade which is how it should be evaluated.
mnshooter
(Photo from the ad) Has anyone observed a two piece actuator with this narrow band of knurling? Every version I've seen, and, as well illustrated in TD's book, has a wider Colt-style band. As a rebarreled (only 24 fins?), refinished shooter, it should fit someone's needs. Rimcrew
It's been for sale for a while, that should answer your question.
Orion
looks like the actuator was welded back together, look at picture #32 closely. Edited March 12, 2020 by Orion
Arthur Fliegenheimer
Both frame and receiver serial numbers were included in the same USMC order. That adds cache to this Colt. as per GH records: #5576 1928 Navy Receiver: 1928 USMC Post Quartermaster Philly, PAForward USMC Depot Quartermaster Corinto, Nicaragua1957 Imported by Interarms 1958 sold as Dewat to Guns Inc NYC #7943 frame: 1928 USMC Post Quartermaster Philly, PAForward to USMC Post Quartermaster Managua , Nicaragua for commanding officer; Guardia Nacional de Nicaragua
TD.
mnshooter,I believe it is a cocking ball from a AOC West Hurley two-piece actuator that is somehow affixed to the body of a Colt's two-piece actuator. Definitely junk! I agree with Arthur about Colt's NO 5576. It definitely has some provenance! Oh, the stories it could tell.
mnshooter
Thanks, TD.Just amazing (Well, at least that's one word for it) that anyone would go to that much trouble to attempt repairing a two piece, and use a WH knob in their effort. NFA amnesty
I blame the Chi Com Virus on the Thompson not selling.
Merry Ploughboy
I blame the Chi Com Virus on the Thompson not selling. There may be something to this thought. A grim reality is that according to what I've read, people over 60 years old are at a high risk from COVID-19. A high mortality in that age group over the next few months may cause a higher than normal supply of all machine guns to the market place as estates are settled by the heirs. The higher volume of machine guns would likely make the currently soft market even softer.
