Sad Fate For A Thompson...

Recommended Posts

I went to the Armed Forces Day event at Ft Lewis, WA, and the National Guard museum from across the highway always brings tables of weapons for the public to paw over. I'd always know they had a nice tommy gun, but now I know a little more than I did, I went and looked. I wish I hadn't.

It's a Colt-made M1921, with it's original stocks, all in VERY good shape, has the early compensator (smaller, unmarked) and a bright bolt. It's also serial #6208!

Some dummy dropped it a couple of years ago and broke one side off the actuator knob, and they don't want it replaced. They wouldn't let me take it apart, but people were picked the thing up and playing with it all day (along with a lot of other weapons).

My God, what a sad fate for such an incredibly rare weapon.

Yeah, I guess it is nice that folks can handle one, especially in a state where Class III ownership is banned outright, but it's still sad that all these fine rare weapons are being treated like toys. The thing that really ticks us off is that these same claw machines come over to our display and pick up everything in sight, even after we ask the not to touch! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif

Oh, here's me and a buddy of mine at our display, holding the only "legal" TSMGs you can own, both built on M1928A1 parts kits.

I'm the guy on the left (yeah, the hat left a very odd sunburn). Mine has a aluminum reciever, Scott's has a Philly Ord one with a Kahr actuator handle (yes, he knows it looks awful)...

Oh, and the M1A1 bazooka and the .30 cal to the far right are mine as well, both demilled, of course...

NO 6208 is a Form 10 Colt Thompson that was owned at one time by the Washington State Prison, Walla Walla, Washington. The prison was probably the original owner. Unfortunately, it appears it was never properly registered so it will never grace the collection of someone who would really appreciate a Colt Thompson.

P51, one small correction,

We do have Class 3 allowed, DD’s, AOW’s and suppressors.

Folks holding approved SBR’s, SBS’s and machineguns prior to the 1994 ban are still in the game as well.
