DGinGA
Last weekend, I took my M50 to KC to use on the Jungle Walk. Bought plated bullet ammo, 230 gr. When cleaning the gun, there is what looks like leading in the first 1 to 3 inches on the barrel starting at chamber end. Tried #9 and 20 gauge bronze brush, but theres still some left. I see posts about Reisings and Thompsons having compensators leaded - is that SMG terminology for the post-chamber barrel? I thought it meant the finned muzzle attachments. Any suggestions for leading removal? Dont want to use brute force methods that might damage the barrel. Not sure why these bullets leaded; other posters here dont seem to get that. The bullet brand wasnt among those mentioned here, so perhaps the seller at KC used white box stuff. Thanks for any advice. If this topic is covered elsewhere, my apologies. StrangeRanger
Shooter's Choice Lead Remover. Really nasty stuff but it works. Wear exam gloves. To get lead out of the compensator slots use an Exacto knife and/or a dental pick.
johnsonlmg41
I use a brass brush with a patch on the front with hoppes 9, that way the bristles poke through and you get the hoppes all in one shot. I would never shoot plated, alwaysFMJ.Plated in rimfire, just because there's not much of a choice, but when you burn 275 out of an American 180 you pay on the cleaning end. jim c 351
Hopefully what you think is minor leading, isn't pitting .In my guns, with a comp, I shoot plated bullets exclusively and never had a bit of leading.Actually FMJ bullets ,with exposed lead base, might leave more lead in the barrel and comp than plated. It makes no difference whether I use Berry, Extreme, or Rainier, they all work equally well. What make bullets did you shoot. Now that you have removed almost all of the lead, just shoot a mag of FMJ and see if that cleans up the rest.Jim C
