National Postal Meter Questions

Looked at a National Postal Meter M1 last night that has me asking some questions....

It appears to be an early Carbine as it has the push button safety in it. Also it has the standard barrel band, not the barrel band/bayonet lug which suggests it was never reworked. Now for the odd parts-it's in an M2 stock which has no markings but appears to be age appropriate to the gun and it has the adjustable "late type" rear sight instead of the flip up one. Can someone explain these inconsistencies?

Standard Mixmaster! Over 90% were arsenal rebuilt or upgraded after the war. They will be found with any number of changes made in the last 70yrs. Carbines are more complicated as far parts go for originality than Thompsons..

Postal Meter did not make there own barrels. And with most if not all of the companies using parts from other manufacturers what is a correct carbine?

The other detail I forgot to add was it had a Marlin barrel in it.

Kinda figured it was a mixmaster. At $900 is it even worth getting and turning it back to correct?

That sounds like a good price, but we are going only on your description. "Turning it back to correct" is a subject of differing opinions. I'd get it, post photos, do a Carbine Data Sheet, and then go from there if you want to change anything.
