Transfer Times

Anyone have any transfers go through recently? If so, what did the timeline look like? I've been reading anywhere from 2-6 months. I'm 2.5 months into one now and no word yet. I don't like calling and bothering the folks at the BATFE.

I know... it takes forever when you're waiting, but all is well with the world when the stamp shows up :) Just curious since it sounds like they reorganized their inspectors and process.

I just picked a NFA piece that took 5 months to get AFTER it

went pending. It took an additional 2 months for the Form 4 to clear

the Atlanta ATF Bank.

5-6 months is the norm for a run of the mill tax paid transfer which was right in line for one I was waiting on that just got approved in December. You may get it sooner; if so, consider yourself lucky.

re: calling, you are not slowing the process down by calling the main number (304-616-4500) and asking a customer service rep for status - it's the clowns that call the examiner and complain for 10 minutes each about how long the process takes. However, once it goes to "pending" there is no benefit to repeated calls.

In late 2011, after waiting 4 months, I called Ms.Sandra Snook, and told her I was worried my form-4 got lost, or was destroyed in the mail......(ever so polite and on my knees to her by phone).....She asked the serial number of the gun, then quickly told me it was waiting to be processed.......a week later I got it in the mail. (MG-42)

I called a couple of days ago... and it went pending on Nov. 21. The only issue is, we (the dealer and I) forgot to send in copies of my trust... but I do have prior transfers (which we included a note to notify them.) The lady said if it was an issue, they would send a letter requesting the copies. It may have been a good thing though, as in reviewing my trust, my lawyer and I found an error (a wrong name listed as a trustee) and we made a few adjustments to make it even more solid. I'd love to have it now, but its snowing this time of year anyways, so I'll have it by summer when its nice out at the range.

If your interested the site below lets people volunteer info on their transfers and you can see the results by type of transfer and even who is working on it. While waiting for mine I used this to see when others sent in about the same time were getting back. Doesn't make it go faster, but I found it interesting . Last 6 months Form 4 to a trust shows an average of 162 days from sending forms to getting stamp.
