I was looking at a Combat re-run and noticed how low Sgt Saunders carries his 1928, slinged across shoulder. It might be my imagination, but I don't think my slings are that long, even when buckled at maximum length. Did they make longer slings for Thompsons, or is this just a Hollywood made sling, or am I just imagining it?

Sgt,
It's an original Kerr sling, not the M3 type made specifically during WWII for the Thompson. The original Kerr slings are a few inches longer.
See the post about reproduction slings and Gunner's post for additional information.
Frank's book also covers this topic very well.
