deerslayer
With the ban expired, could I legally make an shorter barreled A5 model from a 1927?
LIONHART
NO, once a Rifle always a Rifle.
Bill in VA
Nope. The reason being, the 1927 semi-autos are rifles. Using a rifle receiver to make a "pistol" (no buttstock, shorter-than-16"-bbl) is a no-no. You'd still have a rifle, just a short-barrelled rifle (necessitating an approved Form 1 with one of those pretty blue stamps affixed to it.) OTOH, if you can secure a bare, virgin receiver from Kahr, or another source, then yes, you can legally do it. Bottom line though, you can't legally make a pistol out of a rifle, only out of another pistol or a virgin receiver.
