I found this while surfing a WWII site...very cool pic. Notice the '28 Thompson in the lower pic, it has two mags taped (?) together.

Neat photo, Hawkeye. It looks like he is using it as a machine pistol, no butt stock, for clearing buildings. I wonder why he isn't holding it. Why is it just laying there? In Nam my rifle was always in my hands. No laying it down to get any crud in it and I wanted to be ready. But then I'm a gun guy.............

I noticed that his canteen pouch is empty, maybe he's takin' on water...both hands are out of sight, also could be he's got binoculars...lots of reasons for laying it down...he's got a mussette bag and that other strap could be for either a map case or binocular case....I'd say probably an Officer...he's just got something goin' on with both hands.....

Ok I take that back, no officer/NCO stripes on the back of the helmet....I guess I'll go back to the canteen theory.......although that smaller strap on the left does look a lot like a binocular case strap.....

I do say that he has a sling swivel attached to the rear handgrip ....

Only one of them has his finger in the trigger, and I think it's because he has the sling held wrong. He's got the sling held with three fingers instead of the pinky finger like most of the rest ( one has two fingers). I think he put his finger in there for more stability.....but if you look close....he's a mouth-breather anyway.. so .. it might just be because of cousins mating...... laugh.gif
