Most springs for the Thompson are longer than the 10.5 requirement for the Thompson.

1 - Do you leave the spring at the full length?
2 - Do you cut it back to 10.5 and trash if it goes less than 10.5 inches?
3 - Do you use Wolff brand springs?

Do not cut the spring, the total number of coils is more important than the length. Scrap it when it gets to 10”.

Wolff springs are good parts.
